Holy Week Schedule announced for 2017

First United Methodist Church of Elmhurst has scheduled several opportunities to worship during Holy Week. Please join us this season as we contemplate, pray, and celebrate.

Palm Sunday, April 9: The procession of the palms highlights morning worship services (8:10am and 10:25am) on Sunday, April 9.

Maundy Thursday Worship: As we come to the close of the Lenten journey, we will join on Maundy Thursday, April 13 at 6:30pm to reflect on the Last Supper Jesus shared with his disciples the night before his arrest. Share a simple supper in Wesley Hall, with Communion following.

On Good Friday, April 14, a solemn Service of Tenebrae will be held at 7pm.

The church office is closed on Good Friday.

Easter Sunday: Our traditional all-church Easter Breakfast will be at 9:00-10:15am on Easter Sunday, April 16. A donation of $4/person will help offset the cost of the meal. Please join us as we come together in this fellowship celebration as a church community prior to our Easter worship service. Kids’ activities will be available during the breakfast. We will join together to celebrate the Risen Christ for one combined worship service at 10:25 am.

Season of Lent: “Walking with Jesus”

Lent begins on March 1 with Ash Wednesday. Lent is a time when Christians examine their lives in light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We ask ourselves where we are in step with Jesus and where are we out of step with Jesus.

The first five Sundays in Lent will feature a “blessing of the shoes.” You are invited to wear or bring in the specified shoes for each Sunday. Don’t worry if you forget. We will still bless your shoes. In addition to blessing shoes, FUMC will be collecting for the Elmhurst Shoe Fund.

Where will you be stepping out with Jesus this Lent?

Christ’s Servant,

“Blessing of the Shoes” Schedule:

March 5: ACTIVE shoes (walking, running, hiking)

March 12: WORK shoes

March 19: ASSISTED MOBILITY (canes, walkers, wheelchairs, scooters, prosthetics, whatever helps you ambulate)

March 26: BOOTS (Protective shoes, rain boots, snow boots)

April 2: COMFORTABLE shoes (slippers, sandals, flip flops)
