Grace Café schedule released for new season

On September 11 Grace Cafe returns to the Elmhurst community for its 11th year. Grace Cafe was started in 2007 as an ecumenical mission project to provide a free hot meal to anyone in the community and is currently supported by thirteen Elmhurst churches whose members provide two dinner gatherings per month for their guests. This year offers 18 opportunities for fellowship and sharing a meal, from September through May, 2018. Community members who are hungry, lonely, facing a tight budget or are eager to share dinner, companionship and conversation with other folks are invited to come to Grace Cafe. Families are welcome! Meals will be served starting at 5:00 p.m. and concluding at 6:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst churches listed below. No reservations are needed and meals are free of charge to anyone who would enjoy them. For additional information, please contact First United Methodist Church at 630-834-2440.

“Skin In The Game” / Equipping Congregations to Challenge Racism

This past tragic weekend has underlined our collective responsibility to fight racism and bigotry in our communities and our country. This coming weekend, First United Methodist Church of Elmhurst is hosting an event that has become particularly relevant for our times.

“Congregations in Northern Illinois are invited to participate in an important growth and training opportunity, Skin in the Game: Equipping Congregations to Challenge Racism. This half-day workshop on August 19 will provide practical guidance and resources for clergy, lay leaders and Christian Educators to address one of the most troublesome issues in our churches. The guest speaker will be Rev. Dr. Felicia LaBoy who has 14 years of urban and multicultural pastoral ministry as someone who moves from the “seminary to the street, from the pulpit to the pavement.”

The Skin in the Game workshop will be held at First UMC Elmhurst on Saturday, August 19th, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration fee of $10 is requested to cover expenses. A light breakfast will be available.
Advanced registration is not required, but is requested through the United Voices for Children website.

Skin in the Game is cosponsored by United Voices for Children, the Northern Illinois Chapter or Christians Engaged in Faith Formation and the Northern Illinois Annual Conference.
