Children (K-5)

First Church believes that all children are a special blessing from God and that, as a church family, it is our responsibility to do all that we can to increase their faith, confirm their hope, and encourage them in love.

Our programs on Sunday mornings and other special events expose children to Biblical truths in order to help them become the people that God created them to be.

We strive to provide encouragement and support to our families with children from infancy through senior high school as we work together to help them seek opportunities to serve God and their neighbors in the world.

Sunday Mornings

First Church extends a special welcome for families and has a growing population of families with young children who are new to the area. Our church is certified as a United Methodist “Safe Sanctuary” congregation.  Nursery care for infants and toddlers is optional, professionally staffed and available throughout Sunday mornings, year-round.  A “quiet room” in the back of our church has comfortable rockers for parents of infants. Church School for children and youth is held from 9:15-10:15 a.m. for ages 3 through 12th grade.  A Children’s Word is provided during the worship service directly after the scripture reading. Following Children’s Word, young children may choose to remain in the sanctuary for the service, or dismiss to the “Sunshine Room”, a special professionally staffed play area. Children may participate in a relaxed “Joyful Noise Singers” choral group and may opt to sing during worship occasionally as part of this group.

Additionally, the church schedules a number of child-friendly events during the year for fun and fellowship for children and their parents.
